POWER, TYPES OF POWER ,POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, MILITARY, PHYSICAL POWER. FORMS / SOURCE OF ACQUIRING POWER

Power maybe comprehended as the right to make binding decision on others irrespective of their interest. Furthermore, its the capacity to affect another behavior by the threat of sanction. This sanction may be negative or positive.Sanction is a products of non compliance. Power could be exercised by a political office holder by punishing those who fail to comply with his instructions and may favor those who vote and support his administration and government.
We shall look at the forms of power.
This forms of power means different types of power in existence.
Its includes the following .
Power political: This form of power is derived from the constitution of a country. Example of people who enjoy this form of power includes.
The president
The prime minister
Governors
Local government chairman e.t.c.

Economic power; this form of power is possessed by an individuals control of economic resources.example is Dangote , the richest man in African enjoys such power. As he controls the will of many individuals and their emotions.

Military power : This form of power is exercised by the armed forces. Such as,
The Army
The Navy
The police and the airforce control the instruments violence in a country. This force work to protect the country against external and internal aggression.
Physical power: This involves the appliance of force to ensure obedience to the law. it may bring about discomfort on the part of those it’s been used on.

This time , we shall look at the various means that one could derive power or acquisition of power, as well as the source of power.
THE CONSTITUTION: Its the constitution that specifies how power should be acquired and how it should be exercised. Nigeria constitution is a good example of how power should be acquired and exercised in Nigeria.
THROUGH INHERITANCE: This is possible in royal families, it is based on heredity , powers are acquired when the office of kingship or queenship is vacant.
THROUGH COERCION:
Another means of acquiring power is by force , many African countries has one time in their history experienced this.
Nigeria has also witnessed it from 1966 from the reign of Aguiyi ironsi, Gowon , Babangida among others.
THROUGH ECONOMIC RESOURCES. Another means of commanding respect is through the command of economic resources such as, money or property.
THROUGH POSITION OF AUTHORITY: it would be pertinent to note that power and authority is complementary in nature. So, it implies that position of authority confers with one power to control individuals.
